Solidarity Walk: The Lynx

On April 2, 2022, at 9:30 am, the "The Lynx" Solidarity Walk took place. This event took place within the scope of the 10th grade Citizenship and Development curricular area project, of class SE3 (Social and Economic Sciences Course), of the Martins Sarmento school, in Guimarães.

The meeting point was in the Guimarães City Park, from where we departed until we arrived at the Penha Sanctuary. Before departure, walking kits were distributed, including a T-shirt with a print alluding to the lynx (distributed to all students in the class and other participants before the day of the walk), a piece of fruit and a bottle of water.

The amount raised with the hiking kit reverted entirely to the Lynx Program of the League for the Protection of Nature.

Twenty-seven people participated in the walk, including students, teachers, guardians and some of the students' friends.

The walking path chosen was the Penha Biodiversity Trail, a short linear pedestrian route of approximately 4 km with some points of interest relating to the resident fauna and flora, duly marked with 11 information panels. It was about 6 km long, starting from the City Park. The descent was mostly on foot, making a total of about 12 km.

Some students chose to go down by cable car. It was a costly, but pleasant ascent, which generated a healthy conviviality full of good mood that helped strengthen ties between all participants. In this way, contact with nature, environmental awareness, and the participation of the school community in a worthy cause were all promoted.

LPN thanks everyone involved for their trust in our work for the conservation of Nature and biodiversity!
